James Paul Johnson

James Paul Johnson (born June 2, 1930 in Yankton , South Dakota ) is a former American politician . Between 1973 and 1981 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Colorado in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Johnson attended Northwestern University in Evanston ( Illinois ) until 1952 . From 1952 to 1956 he was a jet pilot in the United States Marine Corps . He was used in Korea . After studying law at the University of Colorado at Boulder and being admitted to the bar in 1959, he began working in his new profession. From 1959 to 1966 he was the assistant prosecutor in the eighth judicial district of Colorado; until 1965 he was municipal judge in the city of Ault . From 1969 to 1971 he was a member of a school board in Fort Collins . Politically, Johnson joined the Republican Party . Between 1960 and 1972 he was a delegate at their respective regional party conventions in Colorado.

In 1972 Johnson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the fourth district of Colorado . There he replaced the Democrat Wayne N. Aspinall on January 3, 1973 . After he was re-elected three times, he was able to complete a total of four legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1981 . In 1980 he declined to run again. He subsequently worked as a lawyer in Fort Collins. From 1984 to 1986 he was a member of the commission dealing with appeals to the Colorado Supreme Court. From 1985 to 1987 he also sat on the state's water protection committee. James Johnson now lives in retirement in Fort Collins.
