Dean M. Gillespie

Dean Milton Gillespie (born May 3, 1884 in Salina , Saline County , Kansas , † February 2, 1949 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1944 and 1947 he represented the first constituency of the state of Colorado in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dean Gillespie attended his home public schools and Salina Normal University . After that, between 1900 and 1904 he dealt with cattle breeding and other agricultural activities. In 1905 he moved to Denver , where he worked as a shop clerk, sign maker and dealer in the following decades. He also got into the nascent auto and oil business.

Politically, Gillespie was a member of the Republican Party . After the death of Congressman Lawrence Lewis , he was elected his successor in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the due by- election. After he was confirmed in the regular elections of 1944, he could remain in Congress between March 7, 1944 and January 3, 1947 .

In the 1946 elections he was defeated by the Democrat John A. Carroll . Lewis then retired from politics and returned to his own business interests. He died in Baltimore on a business trip in February 1949 and was buried in Denver.
