William L. Armstrong

William Lester Armstrong (born March 16, 1937 in Fremont , Nebraska , † July 5, 2016 in Denver , Colorado ) was an American businessman and politician who represented the state of Colorado in both chambers of Congress .

Armstrong graduated from Tulane University and the University of Minnesota . From 1957 to 1963 he served in the United States Army National Guard . He was then a member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1963 to 1964 and the Colorado Senate from 1965 to 1972 . Professionally he worked in the banking industry; He also ran a radio station in the Aurora for a time .

In 1972 Armstrong was elected Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served as an MP from January 3, 1973 to January 3, 1979. After his election victory over the Democratic incumbent Floyd K. Haskell , he moved to the US Senate , to which he was a member from January 3, 1979 to January 3, 1991. During this time he chaired the Republican Policy Committee . In 1990 he did not stand for re-election.
