Floyd K. Haskell
Floyd Kirk Haskell (born February 7, 1916 in Morristown , New Jersey , † August 25, 1998 in Washington DC ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) who represented the state of Colorado in the US Senate .
In 1937, Floyd Haskell graduated from Harvard University , followed four years later from Harvard Law School . At first he did not work as a lawyer, but instead joined the US Army and fought until 1945 in World War II before he retired from service with the rank of major . The following year he was inducted into the New York and Colorado Bar Associations and began practicing in Denver .
Haskell's political career began in 1965 as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives , to which he was a member until 1969. In 1972 he then prevailed in the election to the US Senate against the Republican incumbent Gordon L. Allott , after which he held his mandate from January 3, 1973 to January 3, 1979. When attempting re-election in 1978, he failed in turn against Republican William L. Armstrong .
In 1979, Haskell married Nina Totenberg , a legal correspondent for National Public Radio . He died in 1998 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
