Charles W. Waterman
Charles Winfield Waterman (born November 2, 1861 in Waitsfield , Washington County , Vermont , † August 27, 1932 in Washington DC ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Colorado in the US Senate .
Charles Waterman attended the village school and a private school in St. Johnsbury . In 1885 he graduated from the University of Vermont , whereupon he worked in Connecticut and Iowa until 1888 as a teacher. The following year he graduated from the University of Michigan Law School at Ann Arbor and was inducted into the bar. He then began practicing as a lawyer in Denver .
In 1926, Waterman ran for his party's nomination for the Senate seat, which at the time held another Republican, Rice W. Means . He defeated Means in the primary and then prevailed extremely tightly against the Democrat William Sweet in the actual election , so that he could move into the Senate on March 4, 1927. There he took over the chairmanship of the patent committee . Before the end of his term in office, Waterman died in Washington in August 1932.
