Ludger Hovest

Ludgerus Hovest (born November 11, 1950 in Münster ) is a German politician and former North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament member of the SPD .

Life and work

After attending elementary school , he completed training as a chemical laboratory technician in order to continue his education at a chemical engineering college. He then worked as a state-certified chemical technician. From 1973 he was the union secretary of the Chemical, Paper and Ceramics trade union.

Hovest joined the SPD in 1970. He is active in numerous committees of the party, so u. a. as chairman of the city association of Wesel.

MP

From May 30, 1985 to May 31, 1995, Hovest was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was elected directly in constituency 063 Wesel II.

During his time as a member of the state parliament, he tried to prevent the reconstruction of the historic town hall facade in Wesel. The Citizens' Initiative Historisches Rathaus accused him of blocking the project in Düsseldorf for years, although financial aid was indicated.

He is a member of the city council of Wesel and has been chairman of the SPD parliamentary group since 1986.

Postage stamp affair

In his private life he was active as a philatelist in the ArGe Russia / USSR and has made a name for himself in the scene as a verifier of Russian and Soviet postage stamps . In November 2003 it became known that as a member of the supervisory board of Bauverein Wesel AG, he had acquired grants from the Bauverein for the philatelist working group . In the course of this affair he had to vacate his position on the board. In June 2013 it became known that he continued to regularly participate as a representative of the city of Wesel shareholder, contrary to the law of shareholders, in supervisory board meetings of the building association as a consultant and received attendance fees for this. On April 26, 2014, the city council of Wesel again unanimously proposed him for the supervisory board of the building association, whereupon the general meeting elected him with a large majority on August 20, 2014.
