IG Chemie-Paper-Ceramics
The Chemical-Paper-Ceramics Industrial Union ( IG CPK ) was a union of the German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB) based in Hanover .
history
The union was founded in Hamburg in 1946 for the former British occupation zone . In 1948 it united with the IG CPK in the American zone of occupation. A year later, the union's first statutes came into force.
The original headquarters building in Hanover was built in 1956 according to plans by Friedrich Lindau , expanded in 1966 and partially demolished and rebuilt in 1995. Three glass windows by Kurt Sohns have been preserved in the building.
In 1990 the IG CPK had 665,000 members. In 1997, IG Chemie-Papier-Keramik merged with IG Bergbau und Energie (IGBE) and the leather union (GL) to form the new and third largest union in the DGB, IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie (IG BCE).
