Hubertus Schmoldt

Hubertus Schmoldt (born January 14, 1945 in Posen , German Reich ) is a German trade unionist. He was chairman of the trade union IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie (IG BCE).

He was trained as a machine fitter at Wolff Walsrode AG . In 1963 he became a member of what was then IG Chemie-Papier-Keramik (IG CPK) and from then on held various positions in the committees of youth representatives and the union.

In 1966 Schmoldt joined the SPD . In the same year until 1969 he studied at the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics .

Schmoldt had been a full-time trade unionist since 1969 and was elected as the new chairman of IG Chemie-Papier-Keramik at the trade union day in Hanover in September 1995. After the merger of the trade unions IG Bergbau und Energie (IG BE) with IG Chemie-Papier-Keramik (IG CPK) and the leather union (GL) to form IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie (IG BCE), he became its chairman in 1997. After a 12-year term in office, Hubertus Schmoldt did not stand for re-election at the 4th trade union congress in October 2009. Michael Vassiliadis was elected as his successor .

He was a member of the supervisory board of Bayer AG , deputy chairman of the supervisory board of E.ON AG , BP and other companies.

In 2009 he became a member of the “Corporate Finance Steering Council” in the German Economic Fund .
