Kurt Sohns
Kurt Sohns (born January 9, 1907 in Barsinghausen ; † January 4, 1990 in Hanover ) was a German painter , draftsman and graphic artist . He is considered an important artist in Lower Saxony .
Life
After training as an art fitter , Kurt Sohns studied at the Hanover School of Applied Arts and the Stuttgart Art Academy . In 1932 he was given a lectureship in color theory at the Hanover School of Applied Arts. In 1935 he married the Norwegian Louise Wærness. In 1937 he was relieved of his office for political reasons, with a subsequent ban on the profession .
During the Second World War he served as a soldier in Norway and Albania . During this time his studio was hit by bombs, which meant the almost complete destruction of the early works. A role with drawings from Albania was lost in the post-war chaos. After returning from captivity, Kurt Sohns lived in Einbeck , where his wife and three daughters had been evacuated.
In 1948 he received a teaching position for architectural drawing , free-hand drawing and water color painting at the Technical University of Hanover. In 1955 he was appointed associate professor for life and in 1967 he was appointed full professor at the Technical University in Hanover. 1972 Sohns retired . His successor was Detlef Kappeler .
Kurt Sohns was the father-in-law of the harpsichordist Lajos Rovatkay and the grandfather of the bassoonist Adrian Rovatkay . His grave can be found in the Engesohde city cemetery in Hanover, Department 32 , grave number 1057 .
