Detlef Kappeler (born July 23, 1938 in Stettin ) is a German architect , painter , draftsman and university professor . In his work, he mainly devotes himself to the existential issues of human existence. In doing so, he reacts to postmodern and deconstructivist currents.

Life

Kappeler was born in Stettin, where he grew up until 1945 despite the almost complete destruction. After fleeing the " trek " under the attacks from low-flying aircraft he arrived on Schwerin and two years of residence in a refugee camp in Schleswig-Holstein to Hamburg . The experiences in the war and on the run left him with oppressive memories to this day, which he tries again and again to process in his works.

From 1958 to 1965 Kappeler studied architecture at the Technical University of Hanover . Kurt Sohns was a formative teacher . He then went on to study free painting at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts .

In 1974 he was appointed professor and successor to Kurt Sohns to the chair for painting and graphics at the architecture department of the TU Hannover. From 1979 he also had an apartment with a studio in Warpe-Nordholz No. 18.

After his exhibition In Search of the Galeria Gaspar in Barcelona , in 1994 he moved his workshop to the “ Ciutat vella ”. There arose cycles like "space" or "discrepancies" in Santa Maria del Mar .

In 2001, an extensive retrospective in Oldenburg under the title Transparencies honors his work in the Stadtmuseum and Horst Janssen Museum .
