Lichtwark Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lichtwark Prize was founded in 1951 by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg on the occasion of Alfred Lichtwark's 100th birthday . It is awarded every five years, if possible on November 14th, Lichtwark's birthday.

The award is an honor for painters , draftsmen and sculptors , whose works of visual art have gained new aspects in our time and therefore deserve an award.

The Lichtwark Prize consists of two parts:

  • the Lichtwark Prize (currently 10,000 euros)
  • the Lichtwark scholarship (currently 5,000 euros per scholarship holder)

A personal application is not possible. The prize was awarded every three years until 1976. After the prize money had increased from DM 20,000 to DM 30,000, it was awarded every four years.
