Andreas Slominski

Andreas Slominski (* 1959 in Meppen ) is a German painter and object artist .

life and work

Slominski studied art at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts from 1983 to 1986 (after dropping out of philosophy studies) . After a professorship in Karlsruhe , he succeeded Franz Erhard Walther at the Hamburg University in 2004 .

Andreas Slominski became known for his trap objects, which are banal everyday objects and autonomous works of art at the same time. While the works in the 1980s and early 1990s still had the dimensions of smaller sculptures, z. B. the animal traps later to space-consuming installations. An example of the “trap objects” is the installation trap high jump facility - mountain sports equipment from 1988, at that time exhibited in the cabinet for contemporary art in Bremerhaven .

From 2009 Slominski worked in a series of works with garage doors that hang on the walls like blackboards with colorful signs. Here, too, is reflected as already in the case of objects that confrontation with the readymade resist.

Andreas Slominski lives and works in Berlin and Hamburg.
