Kunsthalle Zurich
The Kunsthalle Zürich is an exhibition institute in Zürich that is dedicated to exhibiting and communicating international contemporary art . The Kunsthalle Zürich is the sponsor of the Kunsthalle .
history
After the founding of the Kunsthalle Zürich association in 1985, there has only been sporadic exhibition activity since 1986. It was not until the move to the Schoeller site on the Limmat , where yarn was dyed for over 100 years , that regular exhibitions began. In 1988 industrial production was stopped there, and in autumn 1989 the Kunsthalle opened the first exhibition under the director and curator Bernhard Bürgi. Since May 1996 the Kunsthalle Zürich has been located at its current location, in a former brewery in the Löwenbräuareal . The area was converted for these purposes by the architects Karrer and Fuhrimann . The Swiss architecture firm Gigon / Guyer expanded the Löwenbräu area with an additional storey. These premises were put into operation in 2012. Together with the Migros Museum for Contemporary Art and other private galleries , including the Hauser & Wirth gallery , the Löwenbräu area in Zurich has since developed into a center for contemporary art.
Conception
The Kunsthalle Zürich is dedicated to promoting international contemporary art through exhibitions, lecture series, guided tours, art trips and film programs. Accompanying catalogs provide more detailed information on individual artists or thematic contexts. The Kunsthalle Zürich should not be confused with the Museum Kunsthaus Zürich .
In addition to the individual presentations by artists of the young and younger generation with positions that are still unsecured, exhibitions by artists who have already established themselves internationally will also be shown. Experimental manifestations and smaller exhibitions are presented in a project room. Numerous exhibitions were shown in cooperation with international partners, such as 2005: Keren Cytter ( Frankfurter Kunstverein ); Peter Doig ( Museum Ludwig , Cologne); 2006: Terence Koh ( Whitney Museum , New York); General Idea (Art Association Munich); 2007: Allora & Calzadilla ( Art Institute of Chicago ). From 2001 to October 2014 Beatrix Ruf was director and curator of the Kunsthalle. Your successor is Daniel Baumann .
The exhibitions and events at the Kunsthalle Zürich attract a lot of international and national attention, with around 22,000 visitors annually. Capital magazine ranks them among the 100 most important exhibition houses worldwide.
