Thomas D. Trummer

Thomas D. Trummer (born August 2, 1967 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian curator and art historian . Trummer has been director of the Kunsthaus Bregenz (KUB) since May 1, 2015 (contractually until May 2025).

Life

Trummer studied music as well as philosophy and art history in Graz . He worked at the Institute for Art History at the University of Graz and as a freelance curator at the Grazer Kunstverein , then for ten years as the first curator for contemporary art at the Austrian Gallery Belvedere (1996–2006) in Vienna . In this function, Trummer founded the Atelier Augarten, today TB21 Augarten Contemporary . After international competition from 2006–2007, Trummer was appointed the first Hall Curatorial Fellow at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut. He then worked for the Siemens Arts Program and the Siemens Stiftung as a project manager for the visual arts based in Munich. (2007–2011) In this function, Trummer developed numerous exhibitions and cooperation projects for museums in Belgrade, Kiev, Detroit, Chicago, Brussels, Budapest, Buenos Aires and Zurich, among others. In 2010 he was a visiting scholar at the ACT MIT Program in Art, Culture and Technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA. In 2011–12 he realized the exhibition “Before the Law” with Kasper König at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. Trummer has been a member of the art council of the EVN Collection since 2013 together with Heike Maier-Rieper , Brigitte Huck , Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Markus Schinwald .

From 2012 to April 2015, Trummer headed the Kunsthalle Mainz . Trummer has been director of the Kunsthaus Bregenz (KUB) since May 2015 .

In addition to his curatorial work, Trummer works as a publicist for contemporary art and as a lecturer at various universities and art colleges.
