Ute Meta Bauer (born May 24, 1958 in Stuttgart ) is the founding director of the Center for Contemporary Art in Singapore .

Live and act

Ute Meta Bauer studied visual communication, stage design and art theory at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts from 1980 to 1987 . Since 1985 she has been working as a freelance curator and editor of publications in the fields of contemporary art and art mediation, such as education, information, entertainment , META and Verksted .

As artistic director of the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart from 1990 to 1994, Bauer was responsible for the conception and realization of numerous exhibitions and lectures on international contemporary art and organized international conferences. From 1995 to 1997 she was on the Artistic Advisory Board of the Vienna Generali Foundation and from 1996 to 2006 professor for theory, practice and communication of contemporary art at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna .

Bauer was co-curator of the 2002 Documenta11 in Okwui Enwezor's team , then artistic director of the 3rd berlin biennial for contemporary art (2003-04). From 2002 to 2005 she was founding director of the Office for Contemporary Art Norway in Oslo and during this time also commissioner for the Nordic Pavilion (Finland, Norway and Sweden) for the 50th Venice Biennale (2003) and for the Norwegian contribution to the 26 . São Paulo Biennial in 2004. from 2005 to 2013 she was a professor and director of the Visual Arts Program at the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge . In 2013 she became the founding director of the Center for Contemporary Art in Singapore.

Bauer taught as a visiting professor at various European art schools and held lectures and workshops on contemporary art around the world. Her curatorial work focuses on dealing with art, architecture and sound and their interconnection with feminist and socio-political discourses. Ute Meta Bauer is chairwoman of the Advisory Board for Fine Arts of the Goethe Institute and is on the scientific advisory board of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation . Most recently she was on the International Advisory Board of the 8th Yokohama Triennial in Japan (2008).
