program

The focus of the exhibition and event program is on individual presentations by international young artists and historical positions that are of central importance for contemporary art discourse. The exhibitions in recent years have included individual presentations by Andreas Gursky, Cosima von Bonin, Olafur Eliasson and Liam Gillick. Historical exhibitions included films and models by Gordon Matta-Clark and an exhibition of videos and documents by architect Oskar Hansen. In addition, the Künstlerhaus shows thematic presentations that focus on cultural and socio-political issues. As a rule, 6 to 8 exhibitions per year are presented on the two exhibition levels. The exhibitions are complemented by lectures, discussion events and film programs.

The program of the Künstlerhaus is organized by the Artistic Director, who is appointed for four years by the Advisory Board of the Künstlerhaus. Previous directors include Ulrich Bernhardt (artist and curator, Stuttgart), Veit Görner (Kestner Society, Hanover), Ute Meta Bauer (Director Visual Arts Program, MIT, Cambridge / USA), Nicolaus Schafhausen (Witte de With, Rotterdam / Curator of the German Pavilions, Venice Biennale), Fareed Armaly (artist, Berlin), Elke aus dem Moore (Akademie Schloss Solitude), Axel John Wieder (curator, Berlin) Adnan Yildiz (director, Artspace in Auckland, New Zealand) and Fatima Hellberg ( Director, Bonner Kunstverein).

workshops

The workshops offer regional artists the necessary production space for the realization of artistic projects and enable the exhibiting international artists to realize site-specific projects in-house. Artists are supported in realizing their projects by the respective workshop managers.

The workshops (audio, computer, printing, film, video workshop, photo laboratory and ceramics) are located on the premises in the Künstlerhaus. Further offers include regular introductory courses and thematic seminars. The workshops are not only places of production for local artists, but are also interfaces for artistic exchange.

The children's workshop of the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart e. V. is located in the immediate vicinity of the Künstlerhaus in Augustenstr. 67b. Children and young people between the ages of 4 and 14 meet here every afternoon. With the help and guidance of an artist, materials and design techniques can be tried out in a free and playful way.

Studio program

The interdisciplinary studio program is aimed at professional artists, architects, designers and authors. The scholarship is advertised annually. The scholarship holders have free access to the in-house workshops and the opportunity to develop an exhibition or presentation of the resulting work in collaboration with the artistic director. The work rooms to be allocated are each about 25 m² in size, and there is also a spacious anteroom for shared use with the other scholarship holders.
