Fareed Armaly

Fareed Armaly (* 1957 in Iowa ) is an American documentary filmmaker and multimedia artist and installation artist . Armaly is a representative of the so-called Context art / art context .

life and work

Fareed Armaly was born to Lebanese-Palestinian parents in Iowa and grew up in New York. From 1988 to 1989 he was editor of Terminal Zone and ROOM magazines . In 1989 he moved from New York to Cologne. From 1999 to 2002 he headed the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart . He has taught at numerous international institutions, including the University of Hamburg and the University of Applied Sciences for Technology and Design Pforzheim.

Armaly became known with his contribution Mix to the exhibition " Firminy ", which took place in 1993 in Le Corbusier's Unité d'Habitation in the town of the same name near Marseille . He caused a sensation in 1999 with “From / To” at the Museum Witte de With in Rotterdam. This work was shown in a modified form at Documenta11 .
