Life

Veit Görner was born in 1953 as the second of four children. After graduating from high school in Stuttgart in 1972 and until he began studying social and educational sciences at the University of Tübingen in 1978, he worked as a social worker at the Evangelical Society in Stuttgart in the addiction counseling and homeless assistance departments, including 18 months as a community service provider. In 1979, together with Ute Meta Bauer, among others, he founded the Kunstverein Archiv eV , an association for the promotion of “non-exhibitionable and theoretical art”, which held numerous exhibitions in the following years.

From 1987 to 1990 he was the second director of the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart after Ulrich Bernhardt. At the same time he studied art history at the University of Stuttgart. In addition to the exhibition program of the house, the two congresses What does modernism do after I & II reflected the current humanities discourse on art of the time. In 1987, Bazon Brock , Peter Bürger , Franz Wilhelm Kaiser , Rob Krier , Veit Loers , Ulrich Look , Gerhard Merz , Peter Sloterdijk and Franz Erhard Walther took part as speakers. Then in 1988 Jean-Christophe Ammann , Benjamin HD Buchloh, Dietmar Kamper , Peter Sloterdijk and Otto Karl Werckmeister . With these two events and the exhibition Lehrstunde der Nachtigall , a cooperation with the Stuttgart Art Academy, the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart was recognized internationally for the first time. Under his directorate, the art newspaper Schönblick appeared , which presented the quarterly program of all art institutions, museums, academies and galleries in Stuttgart, as well as the correction series in Stuttgart , to which the Künstlerhaus invited well-known artists to Stuttgart for a week to give art students corrections , or to answer questions about their own artistic career. Also present were Werner Büttner , Gerhard Merz, Franz Erhard Walther and Lawrence Weiner .

With Rudi Fuchs , he curated the sculpture exhibition Platzverführung for the KulturRegion Stuttgart from 1991–1992 . The exhibition was initiated as a cultural contribution to the city of Stuttgart's Olympic application and carried out in 19 cities and municipalities with international artists. From 1995 to 2002 he was a curator at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg . Until 2014 he was director of the Kestnergesellschaft in Hanover. In 2005 he was in art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig with the issue of the viewer as an actor - participation models in the art of the early 20th century to the Dr. phil. PhD .
