Rudolf Hermann Fuchs (born April 28, 1942 in Eindhoven ) is a Dutch art historian, director of art museums, curator and artistic director of numerous international art exhibitions.

Life

Fuchs graduated from Leiden University in 1967 in art history . From 1962 to 1975 he worked as a journalist, first as an art critic for the Eindhoven Dagblad , and later from 1967 as an art critic for De Gids and the NRC Handelsblad . In 1975 he became director of the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven. Rudi Fuchs held this position until 1987. In 1982 he was appointed artistic director of the world art exhibition, documenta 7 in Kassel . From 1984 to 1990 Fuchs was artistic director of the Castello de Rivoli - Museo d'Arte Contemporeana Museo , Turin .

From 1987 to 1989 he worked as a curator of major exhibitions in the USA: Among others in Minneapolis and Detroit ; for the Guggenheim Museum in New York and for the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Chicago . From 1987 Fuchs was director of the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag in The Hague . He held this position until 1993.

In 1992 he was the organizer of the international sculpture exhibition “Platzverführung” in Stuttgart . From 1993 to 2003 he was director of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam . During this time he appeared several times as an organizer of international exhibitions. In 1995 he was curator of the exhibition “Views from Abroad” for the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. In 1997 he was, together with Jan Hoet , curator of an exhibition of modern Dutch and Flemish art in Palazzo Grassi in Venice . On 1 January 2005 he received a reputation as a professor at the newly created Department of Art presentation at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).
