Gary Hill

Gary Hill (born April 4, 1951 in Santa Monica , California ) is an American video artist .

life and work

Gary Hill grew up in Redondo Beach . He was a surfer and skateboarder and became a national skateboard champion in 1964 . He starred in the film Skaterdater in 1965 . When he was 15, he met the artist Anthony Park, which him to welding and sculpture encouraged. In 1969 he moved to New York and studied at the Art Students League of New York .

He has been working as a video artist since 1973. Hill examines the relationship between words, sound and digital art .
