from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Markus Schinwald (* 1973 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian artist .

Life

Originally coming from the fashion sector , Schinwald provides the portraits of the people portrayed with loop, halter, mask and jewelry-like devices. In addition to painting , Schinwald also uses the medium of performance as well as photography and video art . His protagonists are often squeezed into extraordinary rooms, contorted in unnatural actions and thereby create highly surreal situations. In his works he processes influences from the opera and deals with genres of the entertainment industry and also makes a reference to the theories of Sigmund Freud . The idea that an intense psychological state also appears physically runs like a red thread through his work.

Markus Schinwald lives in New York and Vienna.

Schinwald's statement is particularly evident in the photograph made in 2004 and the video of the same name (35 mm, 3 min) "1st Part Conditional": "A film about the conversion of a psychological twist into a physical convulsion ."
