Olaf Metzel
Olaf Metzel (* 1952 in Berlin ) is a German sculptor and object artist . Provocation as food for thought is part of his art for him. For his sculptures he also uses parts that are considered scrap, such as the barriers at the “Riot Monument” in Berlin or discarded stadium seats for the football project “Goodbye” in Nuremberg. In both cases there were considerable protests in the respective cities, which led to the sculpture being relocated in Berlin.

From 1971 to 1977 he studied at the Free University of Berlin at the University of the Arts Berlin .
In 1984 he was represented at the group exhibition Von hier aus - Two months of new German art in Düsseldorf . In 1987 he took part in documenta 8 in Kassel and in Skulptur.Projekte in Münster. In the same year he attended the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo . In 1997 he was represented again at the Skulptur.Projekte.
In 1994 he received the Arnold Bode Prize in Kassel and in 1996 the Wilhelm Loth Prize of the City of Darmstadt.
Metzel has been a professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich since 1990 , where he was rector from 1995 to 1999. In 2012 he curated the exhibition Circus Wols in the Weserburg Museum for Modern Art in Bremen.
