Art Prize of the City of Munich

The Art Prize of the City of Munich is awarded every three years for the outstanding oeuvre of artists in the field of fine arts and photography who make Munich a city of art. It is endowed with 10,000 euros.

First and foremost, an artistic work or an artistic personality should be honored. In exceptional cases, personalities can also be honored who have made special achievements in science and teaching and for art education. Only artists or teams who live in Munich or the Munich region or whose work is closely linked to Munich's cultural life are eligible for the sponsorship award.

A commission, which is newly convened every two years by the Munich City Council and consists of specialist jurors and members of the City Council, has the right to make proposals .

The award is given to artists who live in the Munich region. A commission appointed by the city council, consisting of six specialist jurors and five members of the city council, has the right to make proposals.

The art prize is awarded alternately with the architecture prize and the design prize of the state capital of Munich.

It is the highest city award in this category.
