Jerg Ratgeb Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jerg Ratgeb Prize “for freedom of art and for non-violence in the struggle for more humanity” was founded by HAP Grieshaber and Rolf Szymanski and was the first to be awarded in 1977 to the sculptor Rudolf Hoflehner . After Grieshaber's death, the HAP-Grieshaber-Foundation set up a jury that determines a winner every four (previously three) years, who receives an exhibition with a catalog in addition to an impressive prize money (initially 30,000 DM; today 20,000 €).

The award is given for a convincing life's work. The focus is on artists with a significant artistic oeuvre, who, however, have been denied the highest public recognition for external reasons. To draw attention to them with this award should be an important function of the Jerg-Ratgeb-Preis. The organization and scientific supervision are the Spendhaus Reutlingen Municipal Art Museum , which is financed by the city of Reutlingen with the support of HAP Grieshaber Foundation.
