Beatrice Roberts (born March 7, 1905 in Manhattan , New York City , New York , USA ; as Alice Beatrice Roberts , † July 24, 1970 in Plymouth , Massachusetts , USA) was an American actress .

Career

She started her career as a photo model. In 1924 she won the Miss Manhattan election, and in 1925 she won the Miss Greater New York election. She also won the title of "Miss beautiful girl in evening gown". In 1933 the actress went to Hollywood and made around 60 films there by 1949. Her most famous role is that of Queen Azura, in 1938 in the Flash Gordon series "Trip to Mars". At the end of the 1940s the film roles failed to materialize, and Beatrice Roberts retired into private life in 1949.

Private

Beatrice Roberts was married to the author Robert L. Ripley from 1919 to 1926. In 1935 and 1936, the actress was the long-time lover of MGM boss Louis B. Mayer . After her film career, the artist lived in Hollywood Hills and married a man with the surname Lutz, whose name she took on. Beatrice Roberts was the mother of a son. She was the grandmother of William van Rensselaer Smith. She died of natural causes in 1970 at the age of 65.
