Fremont is a city and the seat of the county seat of Dodge County in the US state of Nebraska .

history

Fremont was founded by Pinney-Barnard & Co. on August 23, 1856 and named after the famous explorer John Charles Fremont . The city was officially registered in 1858 and the county seat of Dodge County in 1860. The hope of a connection to the railroad was fulfilled in 1866 with the arrival of the tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad . Its favorable location secured Fremont's future, especially as a stopover for many pioneers on their way west and as a supply point for further railway construction to the west. By 1906, three major railroad companies ran through Fremont, and business and industry as well as agriculture had established themselves as economic factors. In addition, there are now about 800,000 tourists visiting the Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area each year.

When the nearby rivers flooded in March 2019, the city was cut off from the outside world.
