Alestorm is a Scottish folk metal band from Perth . She herself describes her style as "True Scottish Pirate Metal".

The band was founded in 2004 under the name "Battleheart". First she released the two EPs Battleheart and Terror on the High Seas in 2006 , both of which were offered for free download on the band's homepage at the time. Battleheart also contained a Korpiklaani cover version of the song Journey Man . The debut album Captain Morgan's Revenge was recorded in the LSD studio with Lasse Lammert in the summer of 2007. After the renaming in Alestorm took place on January 25, 2008 the publication on Napalm Records . The folk song The Flower of Scotland (originally by The Corries ) was also covered on the album . The band toured with Turisas and Norther in spring 2008 . In April 2008, Heavy Metal Pirates was released in some online music stores. In June, drummer Ian Wilson split from the band because the burden of touring was too great for him. Subsequently, Alex Tabisz was announced as his successor.
In August 2008 Ian Wilson returned to the band. Guitarist Gavin Harper left the band in September to devote himself to other projects. Tim Shaw, who had previously played in the death metal band Premithon and headed the black metal band Fyrdsman, found his replacement. At the end of the year the band released the EP Leviathan , which also includes the song Heavy Metal Pirates . Soon after that Tim left the band. Bassist Dani stepped in for Tim on guitar. Gareth (Gazz) Murdock from Northern Ireland was on bass . In this line-up, the band played on their tour with Grave Digger. At the beginning of May, Alestorm released their second album Black Sails at Midnight , which was recorded in the LSD studio like Captain Morgan's Revenge . Producer Lasse Lammert played all the guitars on Black Sails at Midnight , since the recordings took place after Tim left but before Dani's switch to guitar.
On January 15, 2009, the band went on a European tour with Grave Digger . In April they toured Europe together with Týr , Heidevolk and Adorned Brood as headliners on the Black Sails over Europe tour. In the summer of 2009 the music video for Keelhauled was released .
From September the band went on the Paganfest tour 2009 with Korpiklaani , the group Die Apokalyptischen Reiter , Ex Deo , Unleashed and Swashbuckle , which was followed by the American Heathenfest tour at the end of the year.
In March 2010, Ian Wilson left the band again. Peter Alcorn took over his place on the drums with the beginning of the “Paganfest 2010” tour, during which Alestorm appeared as special guests on some dates.
From September to November 2010 Alestorm went on the tour of Sabaton's "World War Tour 2010".
On June 3, 2011, Alestorm's third studio album " Back Through Time " was released. Since October 2011 Elliot Vernon of the band Windrider has been playing the keyboard in live performances at Alestorm.
In 2013 they played at Wacken Open Air , Rockharz Open Air and Summer Breeze . On November 25, 2013, the first live album, Live at the End of the World, was released . In August 2014 the band released their fourth album, Sunset on the Golden Age . On July 29, 2015, a music video for the song Magnetic North was released, which is a parody of the video for " Telephone " by Lady Gaga .
On May 26, 2017, the fifth studio album No Grave but the Sea was released , which is their most successful album to date. It reached number 14 in the German charts, although the reviews were average to negative. Metal Hammer rated the album with 4/7 points, Laut.de only gave 1/5 stars.
In January 2020 the band announced their sixth album. It was released in the summer of 2020 and is called Curse of the Crystal Coconut .

Most of the lyrics deal with pirates . The music is a mixture of Power Metal with folk-metal- typical keyboard melodies and hymn-like Viking Metal , although the lyrics of the band have little or nothing to do with Vikings . Tracks like Terror on the High Seas have a clear Thrash Metal influence . Turisas , Korpiklaani , Primordial , Blind Guardian and Manowar are considered special role models . The band often emphasizes that Running Wild is not a role model.
All album covers and artwork of the band are drawn by Ingo Römling . He also designed the zombie rat Scurvy Steve , which has since become a kind of band mascot.
