Ex Deo ( lat. , From God ') is a company incorporated in 2008 Canadian death metal - band . Due to the song lyrics, which refer not only to Roman history but also to the legends of the Romans , they can also be assigned to Pagan Metal . Ex Deo is a side project of the band Kataklysm .

history

In 2008 the musicians from Kataklysm started the Ex Deo project together with keyboardist Jonathan Leduc. The aim was to bring people closer to Roman mythology with the help of death metal. Like Kataklysm, Ex Deo were signed to Nuclear Blast . The first musical result of the band is the debut album Romulus , which was produced by their guitarist Jean-François Dagenais. It was released on June 19, 2009.

On the debut album, in addition to the six musicians, three other artists also had guest appearances, namely Karl Sanders from Nile , Nergal from Behemoth and Obsidian C. from Keep of Kalessin . A music video for the song Romulus was shot under the direction of Stanimir "Stača" Lukić in Belgrade , the capital of Serbia .

The bands Ex Deo and Kataklysm first performed at a festival in 2010 on the Way of Darkness in Lichtenfels .

Since April 2013, drummer Max Duhamel has been taking a break from Kataklysm as well as from Ex Deo due to personal problems, especially his alcohol addiction . He is temporarily represented by Oli Beaudoin, drummer of the band Neuraxis , but Duhamel wants to rejoin both bands after overcoming his problems.

On February 18, 2014 Maurizio Iacono decided to take an indefinite break with Ex Deo and also mentioned that there might be no further release of the band.

On January 4, 2016, the title of the third studio album, The Immortal Wars , was announced. The concept album will cover the period of the Punic Wars between the Roman Republic and Carthage and is due to be released in February 2017.
