Charles Bateman Timberlake (born September 25, 1854 in Wilmington , Ohio , † May 31, 1941 in Sterling , Colorado ) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1933 he represented the second constituency of the state of Colorado in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Timberlake attended the common schools and then from 1871 to 1874, the Earlham College in Richmond ( Indiana ). He then worked as a teacher before moving to Colorado in 1885. There he settled near Holyoke in Phillips County . Professionally, he worked in agriculture, especially in the field of cattle breeding. He also remained in the school service. Between 1889 and 1895 he was a school councilor in Phillips County.

Timberlake was a member of the Republican Party and was a member of its executive committee in Colorado from 1892 to 1910. From 1895 to 1897 he was district administrator in Phillips County; thereafter he was employed by the federal agency for the administration of state-owned land in sterling until 1914. In 1914 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington . where he succeeded the Democrat Harry H. Seldomridge on March 4, 1915 . After eight re-elections, he was able to complete a total of nine legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 . He was no longer nominated by his party for the 1932 elections. During his tenure in Congress, the panel had to deal with, among other things, the entry of the United States into the First World War , the nationwide introduction of women's suffrage , the introduction and later lifting of alcohol prohibition and the Great Depression.

After his tenure in Congress, Charles Timberlake also got into sterling banking. He died on May 31, 1941 and was buried in Fort Collins .
