Angelo Palombo (born September 25, 1981 in Ferentino (FR) , Italy ) is a former Italian football player and current football coach .

Career

In the club

Palombo made his Serie A debut for Fiorentina in February 2002 . After the bankruptcy of the club at the end of the 2001/02 season and the associated forced relegation to Serie C2, Palombo left Florence and moved to the then second division club Sampdoria Genoa free of charge . In his first season at Genoa, he came to over 30 missions and rose with the club as champions of the series B in the first Italian league.

In Serie A, Palombo has been one of the club's regular players since promotion and qualified for the UEFA Cup in 2005 . There the midfielder made three appearances, but failed with Genoa in the group stage. He is also in the UEFA Cup with Sampdoria in the 2007/08 season.

On January 31, 2012, Inter Milan announced the signing of Palombo on loan. After only three appearances in the second half of the season, Palombo returned to Sampdoria Genoa, where he was not used under coach Ciro Ferrara . When he was replaced by Delio Rossi , Angelo Palombo was able to play again for Sampdoria Genoa after almost a year. Now he's back in the starting line-up.

In the summer of 2017, Palombo ended his career.

In the national team

Palombo was part of the Italian U-21 national team , which won the title at the U-21 European Championship in Germany in 2004 . In the same year he was also a regular in his country's squad at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and won the bronze medal.

In August 2006, Palombo made his debut in the Italian senior team against Croatia under Roberto Donadoni . From 2009 to 2010 Palombo was a regular member of the squad. He played his last international match in 2011.
