Elizabeth Hoffman

Elizabeth Hoffman (born November 12, 1946 in Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania ) is an American economist and economic historian .

Life

Hoffman first studied school music and then history . In 1969 she reached the degree of Masters , 1972, she graduated with the dissertation The Sources of Mortality Changes in Italy Since Unification for Ph.D. in history from the University of Pennsylvania . In 1979 she received her doctorate for a second time. At the California Institute of Technology , she received a Ph.D. for her dissertation Essays in Optimal Resource Allocation Under Uncertainty with Capacity Constraints. in business.

After her Ph.D. in history, she was an assistant professor of history at the University of Florida . After her Ph.D. in Economics, she became Assistant Professor of Economics at Northwestern University , associate professor of Economics at Purdue University, and then Full Professor of Economics at the University of Wyoming and the University of Arizona .

In 1993 she became dean of the faculty of arts and sciences at Iowa State University , where she was professor of economics and psychology . In 1997 she became Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago , where she also held teaching positions as a professor of history, economics, politics and psychology.

1 September 2000, Hoffman became the 20th president of the four campuses distributed University of Colorado . In 2005 she resigned after scientific controversy and scandals surrounding the university's football team. She returned to Iowa State University and became vice president in 2007.

In addition to economic history, Hoffman is also involved in experimental economic research . She also belonged to the Cilometrics movement, which combined historical research with mathematical methods.

Memberships and honors

She was a co-founder of The Cliometric Society , the Economic Science Association , of which she was President from 1989 to 1991, and the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics .

In 2011 she received an honorary doctorate from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine , and the previous year she had received the Carolyn Shaw Bell Award from the American Economic Association .
