Bert Bandstra

Bert Andrew Bandstra (born January 25, 1922 in Monroe County , Iowa , † October 23, 1995 in Pella , Iowa) was an American politician . Between 1965 and 1967 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bert Bandstra attended New Sharon High School and then served in the US Navy between 1942 and 1945 during World War II . He then continued his education at Central College in Pella until 1950 . After studying law at the University of Michigan law school at Ann Arbor and being admitted to the bar in 1953, Bandstra began to practice his new profession. Between 1955 and 1959 he was a Marion County attorney .

Bandstra was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1959 and 1964 he was on the staff of Congressman Neal Edward Smith . In the 1964 congressional elections, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Iowa . There he took over from John Henry Kyl of the Republican Party on January 3, 1965 . But since he lost to Kyl in the following elections in 1966, he was only able to complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1967 .

In 1968, Bert Bandstra ran again against Kyl for his old mandate in Congress. However, this application was unsuccessful. After that, he no longer appeared politically. He died on October 23, 1995 in Pella and was buried there.
