Pella is the largest city (with the status " City ") in Marion County in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 Pella had 10,352 inhabitants, the number of which decreased slightly to 10,344 by 2013.

Pella is a few hundred meters northeast of the Des Moines River , a right tributary of the Mississippi, dammed up to Lake Red Rock . This forms about 160 km east of the Iowa border with Illinois ; the Missouri border runs around 100 km south of Pella. About 7 km northeast of the city runs the southern headwaters of the Skunk River , which also flows into the Mississippi.
The geographical coordinates of Pella are 41 ° 24'29 "north latitude and 92 ° 54'59" west longitude. The city extends over an area of 22.61 km² and is the center of the Lake Prairie Township .

In 1847, Pella was founded by 800 Dutch immigrants. The name of the place is based on the ancient Pella in the Jordan Valley, the place of refuge for Christians from the first Christians .
Pella was at times the home of the adventurer Wyatt Earp , whose family owned a farm here.
In 1868 the settlement was incorporated as an independent municipality.
Dutch heritage is still pervasive in Pella today. In addition to the architecture in the city, which is reminiscent of the Netherlands, and the often Dutch-sounding family names of the majority of its residents, a tulip festival takes place here every year.
