Columbia is a city with around 120,000 inhabitants (2016 estimate by the US Census Bureau) and the seat of the county administration of Boone County . The city is on Interstate 70 about midway between Kansas City and St. Louis; (199 km east of Kansas City , 121 km northwest of Rolla, Missouri , 44 km northwest of Jefferson City , 188 km west of St. Louis , and 136 km southwest of Quincy ). Columbia is the seat of the University of Missouri (approximately 30,000 students).
