Suncheon is a city in Jeollanam-do , South Korea with a population of about 270,000.

economy

The city, which is characterized by agriculture and light industry, is currently experiencing an economic boom, which it owes mainly to its membership of the Gwangyang Bay Free Economic Zone , which, in addition to Suncheon, also includes the cities of Yeosu and Gwangyang in Jeollanam-do and the Hadong district in Gyeongsangnam-do includes. In 2013 the International Horticultural Exhibition took place in the city, which stimulated tourism in the region.

Attractions

About 15 km southwest of the city center is the historic village of Naganeupseong , which was founded in the Baekje period (18 BC - 660 AD) and was fortified in 1397. The entire facility was registered as a national cultural asset in South Korea on June 14, 1983 and placed on the tentative list for nomination as a World Heritage Site on March 11, 2011 .
