The county Hampyeong ( kor. : 함평군 , Hampyeong-gun ) is located in the province of Jeollanam-do in South Korea . The administrative headquarters are in the city of Hampyeong-eup. The district had an area of 392.77 km² and a population of 33,560 inhabitants in 2019.
Hampyeong was called Jinguk (진국) in prehistoric times and Mahan in the Samhan era . Mahan was made up of 54 small states, and it is estimated that one or two of these states were part of what is now Hampyeong, according to records from the region.
