Moses Ayers McCoid (born November 5, 1840 in Bellefontaine , Ohio , †  May 19, 1904 in Fairfield , Iowa ) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1885 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Moses McCoid attended public schools in his homeland. He then studied at Fairfield University and Washington College in Pennsylvania . After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar in 1861, he began to practice in Fairfield, Iowa in his new profession. During the Civil War he was a soldier in an Iowa infantry regiment. He rose to lieutenant.

After the war, McCoid returned to work as a lawyer in Fairfield. Between 1867 and 1871 he was a District Attorney for the Sixth District Attorney in Iowa. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . He served in the Iowa Senate from 1872 to 1879 . In the congressional election of 1878 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Iowa , where he succeeded Joseph Champlin Stone on March 4, 1879 . After two re-elections he was able to complete three consecutive terms in Congress by March 3, 1885 . For the elections in 1884 he was no longer nominated by his party.

After the end of his time in the House of Representatives, McCoid withdrew from politics. He worked as a lawyer again in the following years and died on May 19, 1904 in Fairfield, where he was also buried.
