University

Fairfield University was founded by the Jesuits in 1942 and is one of 28 members of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities .

Approximately 4,000 undergraduate and 900 graduate students are currently studying at the six colleges of Fairfield University. The Fairfield campus' location right on Long Island Sound allows more advanced students to live in beach houses. New York City ( Grand Central Terminal ) is just an hour away on the regular Metro North (MTA) trains .

Sports

The university's sports teams are called Stags and play at the NCAA Division 1 level (highest level) in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference . The lacrosse and soccer teams are nationally ranked, which means they are among the 25 best college teams in the USA. The official university color is cardinal red.
