The University of Scranton is a private university in Roman Catholic , Jesuit sponsorship based in Scranton , Pennsylvania . She is one of 28 members of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities .
history
The college was founded as St. Thomas College in 1888 by the first Bishop of Scranton, William O'Hara . In 1938 the college received university status. It was initially directed by the priests of the diocese and later by the Christian Brothers . In 1942, Bishop William Joseph Hafey transferred the leadership to the Jesuit Order .
