The Kutztown University of Pennsylvania , or KU for short , is a state university in Kutztown , United States .
History and organization
The KU was opened as a normal school in 1866 , in 1928 it became a college for teacher training , and in 1983 the institution was given university status. The university is run by a president, who is supported by four vice-presidents. The management is responsible to the foundation board , which defines the guidelines. The highest university body is the Senate .
Faculties and courses
The KU is divided into four colleges :
- Economics
- Teacher training
- Humanities and natural sciences
- Arts.
There are several bachelor 's and master' s degrees with a focus on teacher training.
Sports
The Kutztown University sports teams are the Golden Bears. There are teams in basketball , baseball , American football , track and field , tennis, and wrestling for men and bowling , hockey , lacrosse , soccer , swimming , and volleyball for women. The Golden Bears are organized in the PSAC , a subdivision of NCAA 2. The Golden Bears' stadium is University Field and their basketball hall is called Keystone Hall.
Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center
Kutztown is located in the center of the Pennsylvania Dutch country and is home to the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center on a former farm. The center, which is part of the university, gives students the opportunity to study the language and culture of the Pennsylvania Germans. For some years now, Pennsylvania German has also been on the curriculum as part of a Pennsylvania German Minor Program . The Heritage Center cooperates with the Pennsylvania German newspaper Hiwwe wie Driwwe .
