The Fordham University is a private university in New York City . It is one of 28 member universities of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities . 14,700 students are currently enrolled.

history

It was founded in 1841 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of New York as Saint John's College . It received its current name in 1907. It was the first higher Catholic educational institution in the northeastern United States. In 2010, Fordham alumnus Mario Gabelli from GAMCO Investors donated $ 25 million to his alma mater to finance the renewal of the business school and the poaching of several Ivy League lecturers. The Fordham Business School was then renamed the Gabelli School of Business.

Rankings

In 2008, the university was ranked 18th worldwide (6th in the USA) in the Professional Ranking of Universities Worldwide. This ranking measures a university's ability to produce leaders in the business world.

In 2010, the university was ranked 6th in a US News & World Report ranking in the “Students Producing the Most Interns” category.

In the American university rankings of 2010, Fordham University was ranked 31st in the publication Washington Monthly , and in 2011 it was ranked 56th in the US News & World Report .

The news organization Kaplan / Newsweek named Fordham University in 2008 as one of the "Top 25 Hottest Colleges" in the United States with the award "Hottest Catholic University". In the Bloomberg Business Week Ranking of 2006 and 2007, which is based heavily on the statements of HR managers, Fordham University came in 27th. The acceptance rate for 2011 was 37%. With this, the university reaffirms the vision of the university president, Father McShane, to transform Fordham into a more selective university.

Future plans for Fordham University

In 2006, the new incumbent President, Joseph M. McShane, formulated a plan to further promote the reputation, academic output, and quality of teaching at Fordham University. McShane intends to reform the university into the best Catholic university in the United States. Under his leadership, among other things, the foundation's assets were increased, new professors and lecturers were hired and a new building was built at Lincoln Center.
