Hage Geingob
Hage Gottfried Geingob (born August 3, 1941 in Otjiwarongo ) is a Namibian politician of Damara and since March 21, 2015 - since March 21, 2020 in the second and last term of office - the third president of Namibia .
Geingob was the country's first Prime Minister from March 1990 to August 2002 , and from 2008 to December 4, 2012, he was Minister of Commerce and Industry . Since then, he has been Prime Minister again until March 21, 2015. He has also been Vice President of SWAPO since 2007 and was confirmed in this office on December 1, 2012. He has been the party's president since 2015.
Since February 14, 2015 he has been married to the 35 years younger entrepreneur Monica Geingos (née Kalondo ) for the third time . Geingob has five children.
Career
After training as a school teacher, Geingob went to the United States for a master's and doctorate in political science . Geingob was a representative of the newly founded SWAPO in the Namibian neighboring country of Botswana from 1963 to 1964 and at the United Nations in New York from 1964 to 1971 . From 1969 he was a member of the Central Committee and the Politburo of the party. In 1975 he became a founding member and director of the Lusaka-based UN Institute for Namibia.
Geingob returned to Namibia in 1989 as head of the SWAPO election campaign team and had significant influence on the creation of the Namibian constitution . Geingob's tenure as Prime Minister was marked by the development of a policy of democratic credibility and the successful establishment of the newly established public service in Namibia, together with ministries and other government agencies.
In 2004 Geingob completed his PhD and received a PhD from the University of Leeds .
Geingob has been Vice President of SWAPO since November 29, 2007 and was Namibia's Minister of Trade and Industry from 2008 to 2012 , before being reappointed Prime Minister on December 4, 2012 as part of a comprehensive government reshuffle.
In the presidential election on November 28, 2014 , Geingob was elected the third president of Namibia with 86.73 percent of the vote. It was the highest election result in the history of the Namibian presidential election. Geingob was sworn in on March 21, 2015. In the presidential election on November 27, 2019 , he was able to win a second term. This time he reached 56.3 percent, the worst election result in history.
