John Pandeni
John Alphons Pandeni (born July 30, 1950 in Omundjala , South West Africa , † March 14, 2008 in Windhoek ) was a Namibian freedom fighter , politician and trade unionist . Pandeni was from 2005 until his death Regional Minister in the Cabinet Pohamba I . He was a member of SWAPO .
Life
Pandeni received military training in Tanzania and Angola . In 1978 he was arrested as a member of the People's Liberation Army of Namibia as part of anti- apartheid demonstrations . He was then interned on Robben Island until 1985 . After his release, Pandeni became founding secretary of the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union , which he chaired until 1992 before entering politics. Initially, Pandeni was a member of the regional council in Katutura , in the constituency named after him on October 31, 2012, John Alfons Pandeni . From 1993 to 2004 he was regional governor of Khomas before becoming minister in 2005.
After his death in a traffic accident, Pandeni was raised to hero status and buried in the Heldenacker on the southern edge of Windhoek.
