Nahas Angula
Nahas Gideon Angula (born August 22, 1943 in Onyaanya , South West Africa ) is a Namibian SWAPO politician. Nahas Angula was Prime Minister of Namibia from March 21, 2005 to December 4, 2012 . He was then Minister of Defense until March 2015 .
Life
Nahas Angula grew up in Ovamboland and became a member of the South West African People's Organization (SWAPO) in 1967. From 1969 to 1972 he studied political science at the University of Zambia , then until 1978 at Columbia University in New York . From 1976 to 1980 he worked for the United Nations in New York. In 1990 Nahas Angula became a member of the National Assembly and served as Namibia's Minister of Education for 15 years.
In 2004 he ran for the party chairmanship of SWAPO and was thus given the opportunity to run as a presidential candidate. However, he lost to the second president of Namibia, Hifikepunye Pohamba .
