Ngarikutuke Tjiriange

Ngarikutuke Ernest Tjiriange (born July 12, 1943 in Windhoek ) is a Namibian politician. From 1990 to 2003 he was Minister of Justice, from 2005 to 2010 he was Minister of Veterans, a new office created with his appointment. He was also Secretary General of SWAPO from 2003 to 2006 .

Tjiriange studied law at the University of Leningrad (graduated in 1965) and received his doctorate in this subject in 1973 from the University of Kiev . After research activities at the International Institute for Labor Studies in Switzerland (1974) and at the International Institute for Human Rights in France (1975), Tjiriange was a lecturer in law at the UN Institute for Namibia (UNIN) in Zambia (1977–1982).

Ngarikutuke Tjiriange has been legal advisor to SWAPO since 1970.

Trivia

Tjirianges son Elias Tjiriange was sentenced to 35 years in prison on April 17, 2009 for the murder and robbery of his cousin and for obstruction of justice. Ngarikutuke Tjiriange did not appear in the High Court to testify in order to mitigate his son's sentence.
