Erastus Uutoni

Erastus Amutenya Uutoni (born January 29, 1961 in Omatando , South West Africa ) is a Namibian politician from SWAPO . He has been Minister for Urban and Rural Development since March 23, 2020 . He was previously Minister of Sport, Youth and National Services since February 8, 2018 .

Career

After attending a secondary school in Omatando, Uutoni took part in a six-month military training in Lubango , Angola in 1979 and then joined the People's Liberation Army of Namibia . There he was the commander of an infantry brigade . In 1982 he left Angola and learned photojournalism in Lusaka , the capital of Zambia . In 1985 he returned to Lubango and worked there as a photographer for the Namibia Today newspaper . In 1991 he completed a degree in political science in Moscow , followed by a diploma in office management in 1995 and another diploma in political science at the Namibia University of Science and Technology in 2002 .

In 1998 Uutoni became SWAPO coordinator for the Oshana region. In 2010 he entered the Namibian Parliament for the first time and was Deputy Minister for Security until 2015. In 2014 he was able to defend his mandate and in 2015 became Deputy Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration in Hage Geingob's cabinet . As part of a cabinet reshuffle, he became Minister for Youth and Sport in 2018.
