The main campus is located in the Windhoek district of Windhoek-West around the former maternity ward with the Elisabethhaus .

History and understanding of teaching
The NUST has its origins in the "Academy for Tertiary Education" founded in 1980. The Polytechnic Namibia emerged in 1994 from the “Technikon Namibia” and the “College for Out-of-School Training” (COST) and in 1996 became an independent educational institution. In 2009, the Namibian Ministry of Education officially submitted an application to rename it to Namibia's University of Science and Technology (NUST) in order to reflect the wide range of tasks at Polytechnic in its name. The application was rejected in August 2010. In December 2012, the renaming and relocation of training to Bachelor and Master courses was approved by the responsible ministry and introduced into the legislative process in March 2015 through the “University of Science and Technology Bill”. Since November 16, this is the "Namibia University of Science and Technology".
The university teaching programs aim to meet the practical needs of the Namibian industry for university graduates, an important branch of Namibia's economy . The teaching program of the Politechnikum is in English and includes, in addition to the original certificate, diploma, bachelor and master’s courses (e.g. mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science , civil engineering , nature conservation , mining ) for the 2010 academic year, doctoral courses . In connection with the further development to a technical university, those traditional training courses that previously had more of the character of a technician training (e.g. to become a surveyor ) are being expanded into university courses.
The Faculty of Nature and Tourism operates a training hotel and a training restaurant to support training in tourism and hotel management, which are mainly used within the university.
