Khomas ( khoekhoegowab ǀhomas for mountain ) is one of the 14 regions of Namibia and the so-called capital region with the Namibian capital Windhoek . Khomas is the central region of Namibia and, together with Windhoek and the surrounding populous constituencies, forms the political, administrative, educational, transport and economic center of the country. With a total population of over 415,000 (as of 2016), Khomas comprises around 18 percent of Namibia's population and has one of the relatively highest population densities in the country.

Large areas of Khomas are part of the Khomashochland . Significant mountain ranges are the Auas Mountains and the Eros Mountains , east and southeast of Windhoek. The Daan Viljoen Wildlife Park in the northwest of the Windhoek Basin and is a popular destination for many Windhoekers.

The longest cave in Namibia , the Arnhem Cave, is located in Khomas .

population

According to the 2011 census , 40.7 percent of the population of the Oshivambo area speak as their main language. This is followed by Afrikaans with 18.5 percent, Khoekhoegowab with 11.7 and Otjiherero with 9.6 percent. 2.6 percent of the population use German as their main language.

politics

In the 2015 regional council elections , SWAPO emerged as the clear winner. The party won all ten seats on the regional council.
