The Khomashochland (also Khomas-Hochland ) is the eponymous mountain range of the Khomas region , in which Windhoek , the capital of Namibia, is also located. "Khomas" comes from Khoekhoegowab "L Omas" and means mountainous .
The Khomashochland has an average height of 2000 m and stretches in a westerly direction to the Gamsberg, where it drops around 1000 m into the Namib Desert at the so-called Great Edge Step. However, the Khomashochland includes other areas, especially the northern part of the Omaheke region with foothills as far as the Ghanzi District in Botswana . It is part of the "Central Highlands" of Namibia. Its highest point is in the Hakosbergen located Gamsberg . The HESS telescopes are also located near the Gamsberg .
