The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA; German  about Namibian Statistics Agency ), formerly the Central Bureau of Statistics  (CBS) is the statistical office of the Republic of Namibia based in Windhoek .

history

Before Namibia's independence in  1990, there was no independent statistical office in the country. Statistical surveys were a division of the South African South African Statistical Services performed. After independence, the Central Statistical Office was formed in Namibia as a statistical office and part of the NPC. It has since been renamed the Central Bureau of Statistics .

In 2011, the NSA was formalized on the basis of the Statistics Act, 2011 (Act No 9 of 2011), after having been in existence for several years. It is  subordinate to the National Planning Commission (NPC).

Legal basis

The statistical office of Namibia operated until 2011 on the basis of the Statistics Act, No 66 from 1976. However, as these requirements were more than 35 years old, a new legal basis was worked on. This Statistics Bill was discussed in the Namibian National Assembly from 2010 to 2011 . Above all, it also envisaged the establishment of a completely independent Namibia Statistics Agency . This was formally implemented with the passage of the Statistics Act, 2011 (Act No 9 of 2011) .

Tasks and organization

The main area of responsibility is the creation, publication and provision of objective, relevant, comparable, trustworthy, official statistics that can be easily accessed over time in all areas that are in the national interest. The NSA is also responsible for coordinating and monitoring the compilation of all official statistics.

The NSA is led by a government statisker, currently FSM Hangula.
